The legendary Pentax K1000 is renowned for its robust build; essential controls; and simple, reliable operation. Spanning more than twenty years of production in three countries, the K1000 is still hugely popular.

The camera on offer features a useful split-image focusing screen, which is uncommon in the K1000 line.

This camera has been inspected, cleaned, and adjusted. All functions have been tested.

• New precision-cut light seals and mirror bumper foam (J. Goodman seals)
• Cleaned Pentaprism surfaces and prism bed; installed new dust seal for the focus screen
• Shutter speeds are accurate to within 1/3 EV except 1/500 and 1/1000 are 2/3 stop slow (measured with photoelectric tester).
• Exposure meter is accurate to within 1/2 EV or better.
• Mechanical operation is smooth.

Camera body:

• No dents or dings
• Original skin cover is clean, tight, and secure.
• Battery compartment is free of corrosion.
• Interior film compartment is pristine.
• Several small areas of surface pitting on the top cover
• Small chips or wear on the black metal trim strips, mainly at the strap lugs
• Bottom plate has typical light wear.

Camera Optics:

• Viewfinder glass is clear and free of marks.
• Mirror is bright and fully functional; small blemish at right side (not seen through viewfinder).
• Focusing screen is bright. There is a small surface speck, which is apparent in the viewfinder but unobtrusive. (I opted to not try to clean the delicate screen.)

Lens. The SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/2 lens is in very good condition. The glass is free of haze, fungus and scratches. The rear element has two tiny pinpoint surface blemishes at the periphery, possibly a coating flaw (Note that the accompanying picture accentuates the spots owing to bright lighting on the element. I have not observed any image artifacts when tested on my K-3 II). There is some internal dust. Aperture blades are clean, oil-free, and snappy. Focus action is smooth and nicely damped.

Battery. The camera meter uses a common LR44, SR44, or 357 battery. Please note that the lens cap should be left on when the camera is not in use; otherwise, the meter may operate continuously and discharge the battery.

The authentic case is in excellent condition.

Included: K1000 camera; Pentax-M 50mm f/2 lens; Pentax lens cap; new 357 battery; camera case.

Hi @photolady95, thanks for your question.

This K1000 has metal construction. The top and bottom plates are both metal (not plastic as is found in the Chinese version).

There is no indication of the country of manufacture. The serial number and characteristics such as the 'AOC' logo and 'Asahi' branding place it's manufacture in Japan or Hong Kong, but I can't say with certainty which it is. The original sticker label on the bottom plate is missing.

The 'Hong Kong' versions were assembled in Hong Kong with parts made in Japan.

The serial number suggests this camera was produced in the third series of K1000s, as indicated in the K1000 database: K1000 Serial Number Database - PentaxForums.com

Thanks Craig. I'd love to have it, my first ever Pentax was a metal K1000 "made in Japan" stamped in the bottom plate. However, at this time, in my life, I'm no longer shooting film. I just though others might want to know if the camera wasn't the plastic kind also. Good luck with the sale!
