Item Description
This is probably the rarest pentax mount lens I have ever owned since I have never seen another one like it. I have seen a few non-AF versions but never the AF one. @Moe49 thinks only around 100 of these were made and this is number 12 based on the serial number. Based on my research prior acquiring it I found out that it might be a slightly modified version of the Pentax FA* 300 2.8 (you can see this in the review section as well) I don’t know whether this is true or not but I can definitely say that it is a great lens. It covers FF and works well on APSC as well. What I like the least about it is that it is a bit heavy and the hood gets easily marked. At 2.8 in contrasty situations you can get some CA but these are easily corrected in post-processing. I have used it with the Pentax and Tamron 1.4x TCs and works great. It has a convenient 43mm filter window. It has some internal dust but no fungus or scratches. Blades have always had rubbing marks but aperture works beautifully. It comes with rear cap, the front leather cap, the original hood and the original carrying bag. I am also attaching some pictures taking with this beast in the 2nd post.

My favourite lens. This is #12 mine is #26, apparently there was only about 100 ever made in Pentax mount. It's the best and easiest to use MF you'll ever find. Your little pinky on the focus ring will go from near to far with very little resistence. It also Auto focusses very quickly. Fantastic with TCs. 420mm ƒ4 wth the 1.4, 510mm ƒ 4.5 with the 1.7 and sharp with both. I also use it with the Tamron MC7 2x on the K-1, for 600mm ƒ5.6. 4 lenses in one. By 2x you will see some softness on a K-3, but not on the K-1.

But I'm talking about mine. This copy looks to be in better shape.
One of these seems to come up about every 5 years. If you want great long glass for a relatively inexpensive price this is the way to go. For Comparisons look at the price of the Sigma 500 4.5. With the 1.7 this lens gives me 510 4.5. In my mind an absolute steal.

The best thing is that this lens is really compact. I carry it in a big shoulder bag, and it's light enough, I've carried it over three miles (5 km).

I don't want to sound like this guys agent, but the only negative is the weight. But you won't get 510 ƒ4.5 any lighter.

Mine will come up for sale when someone pries it out of my cold dead fingers.
