I'm not sure if the previous owner knew what he was doing and probably tried to use the lens on an adapter that doesn't depress the pin. I haven't opened the back of the lens to have a closer look. Just understand that the lens works as though its in manual regardless of the position of the auto manual switch and is therefore still entirely usable on modern cameras.
