firstly i will apoligise for the lack of interesting subject matter.
this is your challenge,add some interest to a lame photo

Hi. First timer with this. Is cropping permitted? Rather drastic, in this case.

Applied a graduated filter to brighten the sky, then cropped most of it off. I thought it worked better as a near square crop like a 6x6 format (though it isn't quite sqare). Sharpened, adjusted curves to make the skull stand out more, put a frame around it and posted.

I changed colour and tint, adjusted curves and cropped in Aperture, played with the image in Topaz Adjust for awhile (I just downloaded the trial yesterday), then back to Aperture to adjust curves again and sharpen.

Here's my entry. I've been waiting for an opportunity to do something like this! Unfortunately, I'm on vacation right now, so I don't have my normal PP tools (especially a tablet would've been useful) at the hand, but here it is:

EricT, that's outstanding. I especially like how you added the shadow. I'd like to know how you did that.

Thank you for the kind comments! Adding a shadow is actually very easy in GIMP. You first add a shadow using the drop shadow filter, Filters -> Light and Shadow -> Drop Shadow, playing a bit with the settings to get it right. This will add a separate layer for the shadow. Then use the perspective tool (Shift+P) to make it look like it's on a different plane. In this case I just dragged the two top corners way down to make it look like the skull rests on the floor. Hope this helps!
