Large Tolype Moth
Photo taken on Sept 15th, 2018 at Ausable Point Campground, NY, USA on the external wall of the Shower/restrooms cabin.
This picture is a result of 17 shots stacked with Zerene Stacker (PMax Method)

A swallow tail. This time of year their wings aren't all chewed up.

K-3 and 55-300 PLM

There is a hummingbird moth and part of a swallow tail in this image. Can you find them.

I can prove the swallow tail was there, I din't see the moth until post processing. Spotted on my morning run to the dump.

K-1 with DFA 100 macro.

It says in Wiki that yours reproduce 3 times a year, ours are only reproduce once, you get three times as many chances as we do.

Nice catch Norm! That is an impressive moth! I hope all is well in Algonquin. Three times as many chances and I've seen 2 over the past 5 years! I remember seeing them much more frequently as a child. Herbicides perhaps?....or maybe the lunas are hanging out wherever all of the honey bees went...?

I don't think I've ever seen one before. Rick left his bug zapper on overnight by accident, so they rested near the porch. They were hanging out all day. (Moths this big are way too big to get into the bug zapper for execution.) . They were gone in the morning the next day though.

I think I heard somewhere that all the big Silk Moths have been hit hard by Parasitoids in recent years. In general, parasitoids are the main source of mortality for Butterflies/Moths (hitting mostly eggs and larvae)
