been there done that, and as a matter of fact...still doing it. SMCP 50mm f/1.2 is many lenses rolled into one. Shallow DOF for creativity and biting sharpness when stopped down f/2.8>f/11

Pentax-F 50mm f1.7
SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm f3.5
Pentax-K 70-210mm f3.5

I welcome suggestions! I threw the kit lens and an AF lens into the mix since I'm a big MF user, so it'd be interesting. The 70-210mm is HUGE but extremely rare so it'd be kind of cool. I think AXL is already using the f1.2 lens so I'll probably stay away from my f1.2 lens.
You know just tonight I picked up a kit lens (DA ) my kit was a DAL and consider it for this project... than I changed my mind. I think I am going with a Tak 55mm 1.8 which needs some dust brushed off it...

Hangu, be great to have you on-board.

Personally I'd like to see what the little known European lenses are capable of, so would narrow it down to:

Angenieux 35mm f2.5
Kilfitt Munchen Kilar 90mm f3.5
Angenieux 135mm f3.5

If you forced me to pick just one, then I'd be hard pressed between the Angenieux 35mm (so you can show it off against my DA35) and the Kilfitt (as it sounds a very interesting lens that I'd probably never get the pleasure to own).

Yeah when I saw the list, I was begging for the cheapest (if there is such a thing) just to learn. You know.... for future reference.... if not future acquisition.

I'm leaning heavily toward:

Kit lens - cause people need to stop talking smack about this lens.
SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm f3.5 - Yeah this one is for you Stills Hunter
Pentax-K 70-210mm f3.5 - Super rare and HUGE like a dinosaur.

Edit: Now I'm considering buying a really shitty lens to use for this competition. I think I've enough good lenses and I'm utterly spoiled by them. I should go through a month of having to use one of the worst/cheapest lenses available. I don't mean a Pentax-M 50mm f2.0, I mean really crappy lens that you wouldn't pay $2 for.

Nice choice of body and lens. I almost commited to K28/3.5, but chose "The Standard" K35/3.5.

I definitely don't exhibit signs of LBA (yet) but I think I'm going to join this challenge with my kit lens, since I treat it like a red-headed stepchild.

Either I'll learn to appreciate it, or I'll know why I need to upgrade it

I think I'll shoot with an eye to converting to grayscale while no doubt casually browsing through Tokyo's used camera stores next month. Thanks monochrome, I thought this was an anti-LBA exercise?

Looking forward to everyone's work and to getting out and doing this!
September's not a particularly special season for photography in Tokyo but the weather will be better and I'm keen to get outdoors. Over the past six weeks of 30ºC+ some three hundred people have died in Japan and 30,000 have been hospitalized. It got up to 47ºC last Tuesday including the humidity. Die, summer, die.

For reasons of verstility I will go with a 100mm macro - a few weeks ago I bought a Viv (Cosina) 3.5 macro that I've used twice. Will use that as September is a good month for me here weather wise and photo op wise. I have been using the ST 35 3.5 over August as a kind of practice and have stuck with the Viv 28 2.8 CF in the past . These are very versatile but 'a kind of cop out' - and as others have said - I want to commit to the challenge...

A quick question: I am thinking of signing up and using my A28/2.8 - would it be ok to take some pictures with the lens reversed as well as mounted normally?

TIA.

Great idea John!!

Mate you're sticking with the same lens, so it's well within the bounds of the challenge and certainly in the spirit of it. Fill your boots! I look forward to seeing how versatile the A28/2.8 can be.

Great to have you on-board.
