I'm not great at plants either. I just thumbed through the Royal Ontario Museum "Wildflowers Ontario" guide until I found it. The brown spots on the petals help. The Lone Pine "Forest Plants of Central Ontario" guide would be good for your area as well.

It was a kit lens for a late 50s Praktica rebadged as a Hexatar for export to the US. It's a pancake triplet thought to have been made in Munchen, but no one knows who by. I got it off Mighty Mike on the marketplace last year, and have been having a lot of fun with it in the Single In challenge this month;
