Hi Pete, spore prints way over my head(rookie, newbie here)

Wood oysters I talk about are edible, but thats about best that can be said
not bad soaked,in hamburger and stuff. No comparison to morel or truffle.
What wllm descibes sounds like a monster, good umbrella in pinch

Great Point about safety above Pete, every year we read something horrible here.

I've been tied up and haven't been able to spend much time at the forums, and since I was last free you guys have posted some excellent examples. There are so many kinds of fungi.

I took this one late last fall using my DA 50-200mm (the only lens I had on hand) when hiking in the woods.

A spore print is made by placing just the cap (top section) on a sheet of paper, usually white, (break off the stem) and let it sit overnight. Spores will drop off the gills and leave a spore print, showing what color the spores are. This also gives you a spore sample for the microscope, if needed. It's best to place a bowl upside down over it to avoid air disturbance.

I've never needed to use a microscope, and didn't have one when I first got into this, (but might now that I have one) but have taken lots of spore prints. I should still have one from Amanita Muscaria sitting around somewhere from 20 years ago...I guess maybe I need to get one, take a picture and post it. Wish I had an adapter, a spore picture through a microscope would be way cool.

Tamia - another great shot. You've got a good eye for these fungus shots I think.

The Fungus Amongus - a Week Later

Just thought I'd give an updated shot of this fun guy. It has more frills than a week ago and a lot of ashiness to it. The spores(?) can even be seen spewed out onto the rock behind it.

Was at KEH site little bit ago Pete, they have one listed at something like $8, not sure if its m42 or PK. do remember seeing. Thanks for explanation, sounds like fun.

Tamia did what I was trying to do with that shot, I love it.

John, I posted some above, must of been 200 yard stretch that was literally covered with them, almost over-night,all gone now. Do deer and other wildlife 'chow down' on em?

Your welcome. Lots of rain today and forecast for tomorrow. We'll see what happens to it and whether we get any more interesting ones. It's been pretty dry in our neck of the woods, so I'm hoping for some interesting things to start popping up over the next week or so.

Some of this past Sunday (yesterday) with the DA*50-135 and the DA16-45. All with a little burst from the Metz 58 AF-1 to keep the speed up and the shakes down as the forest was quite dark with a few spots of bright sunlight here and there.(more there than here!)

georgweb - Simple but nice. We get a lot of those ones growing around here.
newmikey - Nice series. I think the last one is my favorite out of the bunch.

BillM - that one is a gross looking thing, that for sure. Cool the way it's growing around that branch.
ricolek - Nicely singled out mushroom. It looks so lonely.

I got a couple of new ones this morning before the squirrels found them. Though the first one is from before the squirrels, and the second is what they left me.

After squirrels:
