Praise for the two preceding images. An unusual thing or subject from jquill, that evoked a "that is really cool" response in my head, and richly saturated colors on an eye-pleasing floral image from noelcmn. Thank you both for posting those.

Any ideas of what this is- seems like some kind of fungus, except it was on a green tree and not a decaying one.

They may be some kind of gall, which could be caused by a wasp (common) or a viral infection. Galls are usually plant-species specific, that is, a plant of a particular species will have galls caused by a specific parasitic or invasive organism. So if you can identify the plant, you might be able to track down the cause of the gall.

Interesting! But you are asking for a miracle. My knowledge of trees is equivalent to my knowledge of car mechanics Maybe when I am there next time I'll have a check and ask Aunty Google.
