Something else. Part of a larger carving as I recall. I'd have to go back and look at the uncropped image and other images taken at the same time.

FYI: The carving pictured may be a detail of an effigy such as the one below which was the adjacent image file. The one posted above is not a detail of this particular carving as the pattern isn't right. This fellow is not one to meet in a deserted alley on a moonless night. He'd probably make me jump which would be bad for my arthritic knees.
