@Voytech: Cool. I wouldn't have thought of shooting that (#1). Something we generally never notice. And #2 is pretty neat--nicely framed.

Two similar looking patterns here (yet not related at all )

Mike, the second one looks like curtains? First one is some sort of a metal rod pile...

Close - silt and very fine grained mud drying on a bike path after a bit of high water (about 20 ft above normal stage)

Is your first shot a closeup of a pile o' pins/needles?

Close. The second one is a [somewhat] close-up of a lamp shade. And the first is a macro of needles.
