Ah yes. I've admired that little tree many times when traveling around the South. Even the trunk/bark is pretty. Too cold in MessyChewBits' winters for them, SFAIK.

A slightly different way to generate a repetitive pattern. Prizes at a pop-the-balloons game at town fair.

as you may remember I like

[ not necessarily in this order ]

1 this combination of lens and camera: K 3 + HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW, hand held

2 patterns and layers found in nature

3 the variation of the feathers

4 the different coloration

5 the different functions of the feathers - flight, warm, decorative

[ image cropped and pp to better bring out my points ]

American Beautyberry, which grows all over the area. There's a swarm of insects all over the berries at left:

Dendritic flow patterns.

At the south end of Anderson Lake, a relatively permanent floodplain lake of the Illinois River system, is a seasonal body of water called Carlson Lake. In high water times, the excess water from Carlson flows over a spillway into Anderson, which sometimes floods over the lower roads of the camping and picnic areas of the park there. Later, when it is too low to have that outlet, Carlson recedes from evaporation, and as some of its waters flow to the lowest point of its lake bed, as shown here:

Here's a link to my post (including more examples) about shooting this roll of half-frame 35mm BW using a Takumar lens on a Konica body:
