the crown cranes seemed to be playing " peak a boo " today

and despite what it looks like at a quick glance, it isn't laughing at the camera

Pansies repeating themselves. These were in Florida, but I'm always surprised to find how pansies here in MessyChewBits can be buried under a late snow, then emerge a few days later looking totally unaffected. Very hardy for such a seemingly delicate, dainty plant.

Camping at Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park, Mattawa, Ontario/Aug, 2014

Even though the picture has my name on it, this is my son's handiwork. Basically he got the idea to swirl the camera over the fire during a long exposure. I really like the effect.

That is a really interesting work-around-with-your-eyes jumble of patterns. Did you have to wait for the viewing area to clear of other visitors, or did you just luck out and find it empty?

Nice shooting. I grew up in the Des Moines area in the 60s and visited the site of the reservoir a few times on family drives. I never saw any water since it was still under construction back then.

I guess being there on a weekday, I only waited a few minutes. I have no aversion to taking photos with people there either, but this really highlights the intense patterns.

Thanks. I believe this is a Corp of Engineers reservoir, first time I have been there. I didn't know the observation tower was there until I got there.

I think the image works best without people. In particular, they would distract from the pattern of shadows on the platform, and those shadows superimposed on an already pretty complex pattern of floorboards is IMHO an important element of the image.

Stones piled centuries ago to construct "beehive huts." Not these, but others in Ireland (on small islands off the west coast) were used as Luke's retreat in "The Last Jedi." The flat stones are slightly angled toward the outside so rainwater is shed rather than trickling inside the shelters.
