Following Aslyfox just above, fences do have a repetitive pattern. BTW: Taken with a Samyang TSS tilted sideways to get the DOF.

A parallel-rows pattern vaguely similar to the roof tiles. These are boards from a stave church built in Iceland about 1050~1100. The surface carving looks somewhat like a fleur-de-lis.

This my roof (it's an earth contact house, so I am standing on the ground). K-3 with Rokinon 10mm f/2.8

Saves on the cooling/heating bills? It looks humongous, but maybe it's the wide-angle in play...?

Yes definitely the wide angle perspective. I would consider it a "moderate" sized house, very comfortable for the 3 of us, probably OK for a family of 5 but cramped for a family of 6 or so.

I think the power bills are very good. We get these statements from the power company that show as way above average users and "room for improvement". Not sure what we are being compared to We added a ground source heat pump many years ago that made a noticeable difference in addition to the other benefits of an earth contact house.

We get 90% of our heat from burning wood (pellets now, used to be cord wood). Our house and all the others in this neighborhood are 100% electric - none of them originally equipped with oil, gas or wood heat for space or water or cooking. Yet our electric bill in the winter, according to the company, is never better than "average" within their comparison group. I am skeptical
