First a typical Roman masonry wall pattern of double layers of fairly thin red bricks alternating with courses of larger stone blocks.
Then a crop from along the right which emphasizes the weathered surface texture of the stones.

one way to distinguish different species of giraffes is to look at the shape of the " patches "\

each has distinct fur patterns

Giraffe Species - Giraffe Facts and Information

this is a Masai giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchi)

" The Masai giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchi) is the tallest animal on Earth with a height of six meters, and coat with spots of two shades of brown very similar to oak leaves on a yellowish background. Currently, they only inhabit the natural landscapes of Kenya and Tanzania. "

the pattern of whitish " depressions " on these boulders on a kopje in the Serengeti was caused by it being struck by the Maasai as an instrument or a signal device

our guide did not allow us to approach closely nor leave the vehicle because he frequently found lions in the area and there was inadequate open spaces to make it safe.

" Gong Rock of the Serengeti "

" In the Serengeti plains of Kenya Tanzania, there is a large boulder called the Gong Rock that reverberates when hit with a small rock. The pitted surface of the Gong Rock is testament to its use by the Maasai tribe to send sound messages across the vast distance of the African savannah since ancient times. "

he told us that once he had taken tourists up on the kopje and as they started to drive away, he saw a lion at the base of the kopje

obviously, at that time, he had no idea that there was one in the area

a smart tourist never, never goes against the " advice " of the guide
