A natural formation, maybe 1.5 inches (~3,5cm) across. The dark mineral deposit is technically chalcophanite (kal-KAF-an-ite) a hydrated oxide of iron, zinc and manganese. The pattern is called a dendrite, a more common way to see this rare mineral than in large crystals or masses..

Ceiling of the cathedral at Pisa. It was quieter inside than out near that tower.

Quite a diversity in the sources for patterns recently. This was built by First Nations (Native American) people and abandoned long before Europeans saw it.
