PP Challenge #33

Welcome to Post Processing Chalenge #33.
Here's a shot I took in May 2010. Bad day all around for weather (snow), driving (slippery as heck!), and especially for photography (I won't even go there as it's pretty obvious!!) as you can plainly see. I like the light on the water in this shot which is why I've not culled it but that is about it.
Take your best shot at it, I'm looking forward to seeing what all you super creative talents come up with!
Challenge closes on Sunday October 24
Here is the 3rd attempt at uploading the RAW image
061.PEF

Bow River-1-5.jpg

Here is the original 8 Mb JPG file as well:

Lisa,

I can't get the PEF file to open after download in either PPL or Paintshop Photo Pro x3. Needless to say, the PP from a 500+Kb file vs a 17+Mb file will be quite different.

Here is my take. Cropped and branches cloned out in Aperture, then a softened duotone treatment in Silver Efex.

Is anybody else having this problem?
I'm not sure what I should do to fix it...I'm not the most technologically advanced person when it comes to computer type stuff. Any suggestions?

I also downloaded the original .jpg file as well.

I had the same problem with the PEF. PS4 wouldn't open it. So here's my rendition of the jpeg!

I just re-downloaded it, and though the Pentax photo browser would show the image, I couldn't crop or even use the auto fix, or rotate functions. Did you by chance save it with some sort of write protection? Can that even be done?

I'll try the larger jpg

I couldn't do anything with the burned out sun so I cut it out and moved the crop off center. Adjusted light temperature and level, added contrast and saturation. Cloned out the burned out reflection in the water.

I too tried a portrait presentation, but didn't like the sun too much, so a hefty crop to place the swirling grass as the foreground and convert it to a landscape. Some selective saturation adjustments to give it a more yellow orange look in the grasses vs the purple tinge. Once resized, the sharpness I felt was suffering, so I looked into some art media effects (brush strokes, etc) but settled on a soft focus instead.

The problem is that the file is named .pef.tiff.

Just rename without the .tiff and it works fine in LR3 at least.

Okay I uploaded the 3rd try at the RAW file and posted in the original thread. This one has no problem loading in LR which is my main source of PP so hopefully no more problems.
Sorry again for all the trouble.

Well, I'm glad others can open it. I still get the same error in PPL: "Failed to display preview" and when I try looking at it, it's just a grey square. Since I've recently just started shooting in RAW, it is likely a problem on my end, but the shots I take, whether dng or pef I can open and process. So...

1. Is your file named .pef.tiff or just .pef?
2. Have you updated to the latest version of your RAW program?
