An exhibition at Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, the Zebraphant I think I posted a while back-a different image this time.

Mercury at the far left, but I'm unsure about the others, probably the Muses.

I've always wanted to photograph the Harry Jerome statue in Stanley Park, with the downtown Vancouver skyline in the background.

Noelcmn: Several those are very interesting. I especially like the picks and the figure at the end.
This is Flora, a modern creation.

One of the most bizarre staues I've ever saw, and in color!

Balzac, a small, preliminary model for a much larger statue.

Daphnis & Chloe (detail, statue about life size). I shouldn't be following myself, but this statue blew me away with its beauty and technical execution. It's almost beyond belief that someone could carve a block of marble into the delicate hands of Daphnis shown here. I do not comprehend how an artist can come to have such vision and extraordinary skill.

Appreciate the delicacy too WPRESTO. The good Lord gives all and sundry, gifts of one kind and another. Even photography .
Some garden statues.
Pied Piper of Hamlin- fancy him making an appearance around here.heaven knows we need him with an ever increasing rat infestation.

A very famous statue from Minoan Crete. There are numerous others on this theme, a woman, bare breasted and wearing a dress intended to leave her breasts exposed, holding two snakes. In other versions, the snakes are coiled around the woman's arms sometimes with their head into her hair. Women are also shown prominently in Minoan paintings and mosaic apparently performing rituals or ceremonies, or seated in positions of respect or apparent authority. It would appear that women were at very important and powerful in Minoan society, even dominant as rulers, priests, etc.
