A bust carved from a block of firewood by my late uncle, roughly 40 years ago now, photo was taken in 2010. Taken with my K10D and M28 f2.8.

Your uncle has some skill. If I were to try to create such a bust it would probably have the eyes one above the other on the same side of the nose and the mouth on the back.
