The Picking of Ceres

The Missouri State Capitol exterior is being renovated. Part of the project is removing the bronze statue of Ceres from the top to be repaired and cleaned then reinstalled about a year from now (she is the Roman goddess of agriculture). The crane they brought in is actually quite large. This was a couple weeks ago, I ended up only having a 50mm lens with me which limited my shooting options. Here are a few shots.

Walking around the Morgan County, Illinois, Civil War monument, in Jacksonville. In 1920, the monument was dedicated to the memory not only of men from the county who served in the Union Army, but also to the sacrifice of local women and other citizens who contributed to the war effort. Notably, the statue is not of a general (something I have so far not seen on an Illinois Civil War monument, nor of an infantry soldier (which is extremely common and to be expected), but of the female figure "Columbia." The inscription below the front of the statue reads in part: "In memory of the men whose stalwart patriotism and willing sacrifice preserved the Union and abolished slavery."

Roman women condemning to death a gladiator who under-performed. X-posted, which I don't normally like to do, but I rather like this statue. I found it both unusual and evocative.

Kind of reminds me of a boss I once had (more than likely if we lived in Roman times, I probably would have been part of the Colosseum entertainment)

This thread has been slow, here is one.

A Vestal Virgin who has lost her head. Vandals cannot seem to resist either smashing the nose or knocking off the head a statue.

A Fiat on stilts? I thought that sort of vehicle modification was the province of Beetles.
Not sure who this couple is supposed to be or represent, but they look fit enough.
