I still miss johnny on a regular basis, he was a wonderful human being, and funny as hell (usually unintentionally - I have a few NSFW stories about him lol)

Most of the time if I like a singer they are also a guitarist or bass player.

Love the Charlie watts story, Keef hasn't gone to micks dressing room pre or post gig in about 20 years his new book is apparently quite good got a good write up yesterday in the NY times book review, think it's on my Xmas list

Oh yeah and blues singers are frequently the exception, I've not met one i didn't like
Right blues singers definitely not spoiled like rock stars.

Isn't that the definition of a talent show? Diverse...

Nice series.

Funny with the first shot. Only sharp part is the hair on his chest...

Wide open (shallow DOF) + Slow Shutter and Fast Drummer = this
Still I liked it, sharpness isn't everything to me. this was the first show I shot with manual lenses since the 80's it is definitely more of a challenge

didn't think so, thanks i like the effect myself. the 200 may be a little long for clubs though (all i had on the trip was the 200 and a 28 along with a 24-70 zoom i didn't carry much due to the weight)
since picked up a 100 and 135 (the 100 seems ideal for club use)

Glenn Matlock brought the Philistines to a tiny club here in toronto monday night. it's always nice to see someone who in other incarnations (ie sex pistol) would only be here in a large venue play a small under promoted gig for a low price ($10)
great show

and one of Cynthia Ross from New York Junk one of the opening acts (3 bands $10 sounds like a local act price, all imports though Cyn does live here)

This was last December in Nashville at Tootsies, a little hole in the wall bar packed inch to inch with people and this girl could sing! The only light was the neon signs and what came in through the front window, the top of the bar was also the stage, the other musicians were crammed in a corner.

A few from the Iowa State University Concert Band (April 2008, our son's final performance before graduation)

All shot with K100D and Promaster 70-300 using available lighting and tripod.

Jim

Worked out fine. I especially like how you caught the dirigent, his hands in motion blur, but his concentrated face sharp.

1 and 3 are my favs. Great shots!

But I'd crop them a littel bit more. Picture 1: Take away the bright light on the left edge by cropping just a tiny bit. Picture 3: Crop to get rid of the machine in the background, then the trombone (?) will give you a diagonal composition as a bonus. Nice how you captured how he float away into his own music.

Warpaint gig in Galway last month
K-5 and FA43 Limited

I know, over exposed and too slow... but I like it. Makes a fabulous print.
