This has been a 'safe' PP challenge having a basic seascape capture to play with, but some entries really gave the PP a go with some beautiful striking results.
It's been an honour to host and judge it.
So without further ado, here are the results of the mini-challenge:
In alphabetical order, the rundown of feedback for each image:
atupdate: Texture plus! Colours are a little flat and doesn't quite make the 'desaturated' look but the texture makes up for this.
Honourable mention! bbluesman: A bold effort, but overboard with colour and processing, and the foreground is dark.
casil403: A smooth rendition, Lisa - doesn't have 'wow' impact to score highly but boasts of good textures.
erkie: Another bold attempt, but too much contrast losing a lot of shadow detail
Fries: Good thinking for a landscape crop, however colours are too skewed towards the reds to look natural.
jax_zee: as with Lisa's entry this is a good rendition but lacks punch.
jmschrei: Strong contrast but looks too cool and appears shrink wrapped!
Mike S: Colourful & pleasant but the highlights in the sky are out of control!
ozlizard: Looks like the water is infested with alien cyan-blue algae!
ramsaybuckeye: Good colour in the foreground but not enough definition and contrast.
rparmar: Another likeable B&W conversion, perhaps a little heavy-handed with the HDR-like effect.
song_hm: A beautiful mono rendition with lots of texture and definition along with great tonal range. A
winning entry!
Spongefingers: This entry qualifies the 'wow' factor category. The bold crimson foreground retains texture detail but contrasts boldly with the blues of the background. Another
winning entry!
tackyat.2: Pleasant and colourful rendition, just a tad too cool in the foreground.
Honourable mention! Voytech: Skewed horizon is different, interesting, but not sure it works all that well. The foresground is dark and lifeless.
wllm: Strong rendition with lots of contrast but a little light on with the colour and foreground texture.
and last, but definitely not least in any way:
yeatzee: You have done this image justice. Excellent work bringing out the detail and texture of the foreground, as well as complementing this with natural colours and a beautifully manipulated sky. This is a 'wow' factor image.
Winning entry!
And here is the order of the winners:
2nd runner up:
