Cross-post in a (modest) selection of threads - we do have to get to at least 45k collectively and 180 personally!

Normal service can be resumed in September...

sounds good to me

I have been doing my best toward the " collective good " so I don't have to post anything to be in the raffle [ top 10 in June and July get free entry ]

if it is even held

I had noticed the bIF when I snapped the shutter on the pollinator,

the other insect was a " surprise " when I looked at the photos at home

I suspect we'll fall short of 45,000 this month. At the start of the month we needed about 1500 posts per day to reach 45,000 comfortably, but we have not maintained that pace. Now we need almost 2,000 posts a day for the rest of the month to get there. That is a challenge. Trying my best, but I cannot spend more hours at the keyboard than I have been.

Just over 1600/day needed at the moment, according to my calculations. I'd guess we get a better rate at weekends, and there's still most of one day of this weekend left in the USA, where I imagine most PF members are (?). Plus if it's looking marginal I expect the post rate will pick up. It'd be interesting to see post rate per hour plotted against time, for the last few months...

I think Adam said we exceeded 45k posts in July, so there's hope yet!

Yes we did make the total in July, so two Pentaxians, at least one of them very new to us, have their new K1 cameras. I feel good about that as I think both of them will really appreciate and use their prize.

Since I have an automatic slot in the August Contest, based on being among the top posters in June and July, I am thinking we won't make the minimum posts needed to hold the raffle

Among the other Monarchs, it's known as a "tough guy"!

Butterflies are tougher than you think! Also, you should see how beaten-up the bumblebee wings get. They do tend to bounce into objects a lot, they're tough girls, too...but not all that graceful.

Great shots of the clearwing and the pennants mating! Clearwing moths are surprisingly tough to photograph, they rarely sit still.

Many thanks for your compliment, effectively, the Clearwing moth was a nightmare to catch.

This one fluttered by just long enough to grab my camera and switch lenses.

K-3 and DA*200 2.8 with F 1.7x TC

There was plentiful food source this year.

The weather was perfect of milkweed plants apparently. They have thrived.

As have the little guys that live under their leaves.

Apparently this guy in three weeks will look like the ones in the rest of the photos, now feasting on this late summer plant, who's name I'm unfamiliar with.

They are no doubt packing in the calories for the long trip to Mexico.
