beetle of some sort, itty-bitty thing, about 1.5mm from nose to tail, I reckon. Never seen one like it before.

Tons of little flower beetles out there. You might get a family ID on Bug Guide.
Fleabane is a great family of flowers, you'll see a lot of activity if you watch, and it blooms all year - as do some of the other little asters. The little Stratiomyinii soldier flies are often seen on them. I think their larvae are too.

A small, even tiny flower beetle. It would not lift its head from the center of the geranium.

Trees such as this threw us into despair for what gypsy moth caterpillars might do this year, but so far we've seen only scattered evidence of their destructive feeding. It may be that conditions this Spring killed off the vast majority of these egg cases. About 500 to 1000 eggs in each of these cases - you count them, multiply and wince at the damage inflicted if only a fraction of them survived the winter.
