A true bug (Heteroptera) of some kind. Maybe TER-OR can put a name on it.

Too many bugs! I'm just getting a handle on hymenoptera and to a lesser degree, diptera. My disorganized brain can handle only so much!
I do see a lot of these little critters, though. I really should figure out what they are.

Gee. What is half a million insects - more or less - to the human brain?

damselfly

while in the garden late yesterday afternoon, I noticed this tiny damselfly - body itself of an inch or so and very shy - these are the only two decent shots of it

I was not able to catch her at an angle to see her wings...

I recall a time in the mid-'80s when we had an absolute deluge of "seventeen-year locusts" - though I think it was actually a confluence of four or five different subspecies that emerged that one year, something having to do with wheels within wheels on the Mayan calendar stone. I took my oldest boy out, then about seven or eight, late at night to watch 'em crawl up the trees. It was like something out of a science fiction movie.

This one ain't no "locust", neither, but it's a lot closer relative than the cicada. I wonder if he flew up and lighted on my skin, whether I'd catch poison ivy from the leaves he's sitting on?

A tiny insect, shorter than the width of a black-eyed Susan petal. Looks like a hover fly to me (Syrphidae)

Took quite a few images twisting the focus back and forth a tiny amount. The DOF was barely enough to get both the head and tip of the abdomen simultaneously into reasonable focus. Catching the cleaning was pure luck. I didn't know I had caught that until reviewing the images on the computer.
