Yeah, many of these hoverflies are tiny. The advantage is they're everywhere and a pretty calm subject. Often getting a great shot is luck, since even tiny amounts of subject blur knock them out of the focus plane - even when shooting at f/16!
The Syrphid flies and other flies are an under-studied subject. If you know an aspiring entomologist, it's a good subject.

There are also tiny soldier flies which spend a lot of time on flowers. I don't know a lot about their life cycle, but they're fun subjects.

I posted a different version of this fly earlier. That one was a single file, this is a three file focus stack which has added some detail on the fly but at the expense of some ugly artifacts especially in the bokehed background.

A milkweed beetle, almost always easy to find in the summer, and a water strider that's a scan from a chrome

A small butterfly, about 0.75 inches (<2.0cm) long. I moved as far to the left as possible trying to get where the wings would be parallel to the sensor, but it wasn't possible Tall weeds and pushing through them would have (and after this shot did) send the butterfly away.
