needing some assistance in identifying this flying pollinator:



I know it is some type of fly, mainly due to the arrangement of the head/eye structure... but beyond that....

anybody?

peony nectar is a food source for the ants....

I think the common English name is bee fly (Bombyliidae family).

I noticed I hadn't posted this one. Flower Longhorn Beetle from last summer, taken with the Ricoh GRIII. If you can get close enough without casting a shadow or scaring the bug off, it gives you lots of depth of field.
