A common moth, not at all colorful. SCAN from the Film Era. The emulsion imparted a lot of graininess. Using denoise to get rid of it destroyed too much detail

More a photo of the ant's nest than the single ant on guard duty (probably). This species of Australian ant folds over leaves and stitches the edges together to make a hide-away.
Common name = green tree ant, Techically = Oecophylla smaragdina but you knew that (I had to look it up)

Ambush bug, one of my favorite insect subjects (when you see them close-up, they look positively alien), and a fly. The fly is a predator that has captured and is feeding upon a smaller fly.

yes, to both - the bird feed we use has cracked-corn in it...

I put some cracked corn out, but a pitcher a a day goes to a deer..... it's mostly eaten by the bigger birds, grouses and and wild turkeys. I also spread it one the gourd mixed with other seed, but it's always the last thing left, it's not the favourite of any small birds.

Our corn eater

Our smaller birds prefer black oil sunflower seeds, and the sparrows prefer wheat berries or oats.

Precisely my experience = black oil sunflower seed is what most of the small seed-eating birds prefer. I sometimes purchase sunflower hearts to cut down on the husks that accumulate around the base of a feeder, although that is more of a problem with striped sunflower seeds than the black oil variety.

Three Costa Rica butterflies

Banded Peacock, quite common when we were there

Two-barred Flasher, a type of Skipper

One of the long-tailed Skippers (taken while I was waiting for a hummingbird to show up!)
