Wow, what stunning images here. And scary, starting with your Locust and Spider, Paleo Pete    Yeatzee, I'm definiely not coming to your neighbourhood.Blue, I assume the pen is there for comparison purposes. If that is true, that beetle is tiny, tiny. Great shots. Saw this one today, and crept up on him first taking a shot from the back, then from the side and then the front (when I realised I AM BIGGER THAN IT  ) I liked his moustache, I am sure he grew it for Mouvember month. I was splitting some wood today and drove this guy/gal out of hiding. Couldn't isolate the location so just shot it on the driveway. Both with an Auto Sears 1:2.0 50mm with a 31mm tube in daylight. 2nd was a crop to 1800 x 1400 and then later sized. f/11 then f/16   | |

You should see the dozens I haven't posted...and yeah, Yeatzee gets some absolutely amazing shots, I love his macro work. That last Mantis picture was superb.Your pictures above are great too, excellent shots. I love the front shot. Just great. I was looking through my keepers folder last night, and was amazed at just how many insect shots I've really taken. I have 1717 pictures in that folder, another 300 or so in a second one, and probably 500 of them are macros of insects...so I'm liking this thread... Great shots showing up, keep 'em coming I love seeing this stuff. | |

I was splitting more wood today and another wood spider (that's what I call them anyway) popped out. It was on the side of my base log, and due to the cold wasn't moving very much. So, for this one I put 52mm of tubes and an M50/1.7 on the end. Used the onboard flash, no diffusion, so more shadow than I'd like, but... I also rotated the shot 90 degrees to landscape.  | |

Noel - More very nice shots there. I'm not a fan of grainy pictures but the grain in the second one seems to work, I guess due to the texture in the rest of the background. I would love to see a bit more detail in the spider. It's very good, as is though. And go ahead, look at my Flickr page, not too much scary stuff there...lol...no more than maybe a dozen jumping spiders or so, maybe a bee killer similar to the one you posted above, (it's definitely in the same family but I'm not sure if it's a bee killer or robber fly, they look very similar with different markings, and this is a different one than those I see here. I've shot several with my 50mm.) I don't think the gator pictures are there any more...but I did post up a few nice Pelican shots lately. | |

Two insects came to visit me in my flat One is the same moustched fellow I posted earlier, so I had some fun with them. The other a mosquito like creature, a sort of large mosquito, but quote harmless. I should mention these were taken at around 11 at night. I don't even want to think what my neighbors think of me. Nut case is what the are probably saying, flash going off regularly. Both insects eventually died, found them 1. With a torch shining on it, was able to get this image-looks like one of those deep sea monsters. Shot wth tripod. 2. Front view 3. Side view 4. Mosquito like insect. 5. Interesting effect with a blue light torch. Tried Paleo Pete's Rig (rigmarole) but these insects (also ) got such a fright, they immediately came back to life and jumped away. Difficult to focus in poor light, and they preferred darker places, like behind doors where the 2nd insect was found. Cheerio Noel | |
