Some strange flare-A top hat and a bullet
Looks as though the "bullet" was shot from or popped out of the "hat." The "hat" thus becomes a cartoon "cannon."

I retook the image below, eliminating the flare with that classic flare-buster, my left hand. The big, bulgy front element of the Sigma 12-24 is very prone to catching the sun. (BTW: Zion NP)

I've visited that park. It's a remarkable place.

Experiment:

What will happen if I mount my ancient Samigon 180-Degree Fish-eye lens on the front of my Helios 44-2 f2 58mm preset lens? Will the rear pupil of the Samigon only feed into the Helios's sharp center, or will the latter's less focused margins be engaged?

Complication to Experiment:

I wasn't auto bracketing and seem to have overexposed most of the shots...or was it the still-low winter-morning sun complicating metering the way it didn't in midsummer, when I last trotted out the Samigon on the front of other lenses?

One thing is sure, in some of these shots, FLARE HAPPENED! [camera: K10D. location: Riverfront Park, Pekin, Illinois.]

Has anyone ever seen a tree throwing a rainbow shadow?
