Very interesting subject. I want to say that it is a Derringer, but the pistol grip is a little too large, I believe. I do not see a Maker's Mark on this side of the weapon, could be on top of the shell chamber. Do you happen to know the manufacturer of this piece? Thanks for the treat Walt and a great shot.

When I have a chance tomorrow I'll go back to see if the label originally in the image had the manufacturer, but I doubt it. I knew it was a flare gun as soon as I saw it in the display case. The barrel is far too large in diameter/gauge for a derringer, although the general outline of the weapon is akin.

Actually many collectors agree that the Derringer did come in more than just the, "Mini Me" size, although the production runs were very limited.

FYI Tony. The label in the museum case says: "202/205 FLARE PISTOL."
