FYI Tony. The label in the museum case says: "202/205 FLARE PISTOL."

Well that is good to know. Thanks a bunch.

I've been traveling quite a bit of late. Traveling by airplane is a bit like being a pack dog on a dogsled team. Unless you're the lead dog the view doesn't change much. All I get is the same old boring views out the window.

The flare comes up under the bill of this black guillemot in such a way that it looks like part of the bird's facial pattern.

Nice one, Javier - is that from the fires around the Malibu area?

Before mealtime. The lady, not one of our tour group, was definitely wondering what on Earth I was up to.

Very glareful light for first tests of a new-to-me fish-eye lens, so, what the heck, just intentionally include the sun in the shot.

Reflected flare, or flare as a consequence of reflection.

It makes you hesitant to turn around and look directly at the source of that light.
