That's super cool MSL how you managed to retain the details on both the glass and the scene behind! Never thought I was much of an OOF shooter. But decided to give it a shot in the Singles In Feb last month. This was my attempt.

Thanks for the compliment. It was a rushed shot as I was curious to try to enter the weekly contest. I've only had my K-5 for about 6 weeks. I'm not even sure which lens I used - probably my 35-105 as I love the range, and it's ability to close focus throughout the zoom range. If I recall, I got the window into full focus and then slowly defocused until the trees starting to show up. Need a fair amount of DOF too.

You've got an interesting picture there too. I might have gone just slightly more in focus, only because you've got a lot of fine detail in the branches (needles?). The limited color range also adds a nice touch.

Thanks for the comments MSL. It's the first time I've ever tried doing OOF intentionally and I didn't really know what I was doing. LOL. Maybe I should've gone on here first for some inspiration and tips

Yes the branches have needles on them. It's a casuarina tree (Australian native pine).

Can't say I've tried to do OOF much myself, at least not intentionally
One easy suggestion - take a range of photos at the aperture/shutter speed/iso while slowly varying the focus. Then try the same again, but with a much smaller aperture - which will give you a sense of what happens when you expand the DOF.

I must admit, I like it as it is. Nice cool color, good composition.
