English Channel is so possessive. I prefer the French term - "La Manche" - which describes the shape of this body of water as looking roughly like a sleeve. Very flat light looking north at sundown.

I was at the beach before the sunrise on Saturday and it was very calm, little wind and waves, but I was astounded by the number of surfcasters out early.
