Ah...so this is where the abstracts have been hiding - most photos posted on this forum under the subject title "Abstract" are more "random" than abstract.

In theory, if an image is an "abstract" it is impossible to determine what is in the image, it is impossible to identify the subject(s). However, images posted on this thread have always included patterns, or distortions or blurs of something that can be recognized. In practice, everyone tolerates whatever someone decides to post on a particular thread, regardless of the thread's "theme." A possible exception is the "Alphabet Race" where deviating from the accepted alphabetic sequence will elicit remarks about the error. I suspect complaints would also arise were an elephant to be posted on one of the insect threads, but I cannot recall such an egregious violation of a thread being posted.

Perhaps more minimalist, but probably still fits the bill.

The original image was pretty abstract before PP possibilities got to it.

I plead guilty to some that may be more in the "random" category. But if you cannot identify what the subject is, I figure it fits in the "abstract" category as well.

I think "abstract" is too abstract for most of us It is always just a work-in-progress I guess.
