Your best 10 of 2010

Show your favourite 10 photos of 2010

I challenge you to cut down to the essence; show your best 10 photos from 2010. To be specific, I'm not looking for your 10 most popular photos, but the 10 that you like the most for whatever reason.

Of course, this is not an easy exercise. But I will start you off with a selection of 10 photos of my own. Each one reminds me of a certain time or activity in 2010 and many were instances where I was surprised with the outcome.

Super Program and Neopan 400 film
Took this at the Motorvation car show early in the year of 2010. At the time I was rather happy with the outcome as I wasn't too sure how it would come out!

Carnaby's Black Cockatoo
I was rather lucky in Feb when a flock of these birds flew right by. They are endangered, and I had been trying to get a decent shot for 6 months or more.

Sunrise on Bunker Bay
Taken on a short trip away with my old 400mm.

Waterfall on the Routeburn Track
A simple to take, 'lucky' photo but still one of my favourites

City of Perth reflection
Night time reflection from the City of Perth council building

Rottnest Island Vista
Just a simple day at Rottnest Island, taken with the DA15 limited

Porsah Laine at the Rosemount
Tri-X film pushed to 1600ISO; another where I really didn't know whether the shot would wok or not!

Corsair at Warbirds over Wanaka 2010
Had an absolute ball at my first ever real airshow

Sunset reflection
Something a bit different, Spring sunset reflection thanks to beautiful light and the M135mm f/3.5

New Zealand on film
Part of a large series of film shots, this one gave me a pleasent surprise after scanning for the second time

Cheers! (and show me yours)
Jason

Dead movie-star. Hugh Hefner has the spot to the left reserved. The guy above requested to be interred upside down. His widow is subsequently moving him out and selling the spot on Ebay.

I like the light and shade on the astronomer's monument.

Love this place. The monthly "star party" on the lawn accounts for all the people. Returned specifically for the dusk shots.

I love all the expressions of these re-enactors.

Part of a vacation.

WWII re-enactors at an air show.

Took about 1/2 hour of fiddling to get this at Gettysburg.

Sundial bridge.

Part of California/Oregon vacation.

WWI German re-enactor. Love the triplane.

SpecialK - Love your sundial bridge shot. It's quite a structure and is just made for experimentation.

Thank you. It is photogenic, though I never got around to your angle.

Thanks. The re-enactors do it for fun, but it adds a lot to the atmosphere.

The first time I shot there I didn't either but I went there last summer just after sunrise and was that rewarding. Here is a link to my shot on that bright summer morning.

Sundial Bridge, Redding CA - a set on Flickr

I love your people shots too. Very nice series.

10?

Don't have to worry much about popularity. Other than my game albums people don't pay a lot of attention to my photo postings.

Why did I choose them? see the comments above each photo (they are really quite simple).

Just Because.

My first ever successful BIF.

Because I like it.

A film shot from my new MZ-S and a Zenitar 16mm f2.8FE

others I just plain like..

I do take people pics once in awhile.

Because it made the 4 year old girl next door giggle.

You didn't think you'd get through one of my sets without looking at the Hound did you?

Because I still think it's one of the best Guitar shots I've ever done.

I don't know that I actually have any Real Favorites but those would be among them. There are over 1400 photos posted online from 2010. My 'Best' may very well change tomorrow. Feel free to look for yourself.

blackcloudbrew - lovely landscapes and agricultural scenes, beautiful colour! A pleasure to view.

Jeff - The "just because" reason for picking shots fits what I had in mind for this thread perfectly. I enjoyed your set, great images all round. No complaints with seeing the Hound either! The guitar, the flowers and the rowers (?) stand out for me in particular.

cheers,
Jason

This is a really good idea, Jason. I'm enjoying everyone's pictures, but some make me go back again and again...

Jason, "Sunrise on Bunker Bay" is so beautiful. I love the colors and the light, and the high contrast.

SpecialK, your Gettysburg evening/night picture seems to me to be a perfect shot to remember the Civil War. And the "Sundial bridge" is amazing -- love the perspective.

Blackcloudbrew, your portrayal of the Sundial is stunning, and I love the oak tree portrait.

Jeff, WOW, what a beautiful guitar so very well portrayed. Your BIF shot is great, and I just love the squirrel photo. And how could anyone not be charmed by the Hound?

I picked 10 pictures which I particularly like. I'm not sure if anyone would think of them as the best of anything, but they please me:

Freefall A March day when the sun is finally warming the land after a cold, long winter.

April in the Adirondacks This is St. Regis Mountain. I had excellent company on a day hike, which probably colors my feelings for this picture.

Dappled By Rain and Spray Had to crawl over slick bedrock to shoot this as the falls roared so loudly I couldn't hear anything else.

Dark and Dusted A light early winter snow in the woods.

Skim Ice on the Beaver Pond I really liked the pattern of the submerged tussocks as well as the soft reflections on the forming ice.

Autumn Reflected at Sunset A side channel captured the glow from a colorful hillside as the sun dipped over the ridge.

River Colors Early autumn, the green is from an algal bloom in the river.

Unexpected Visitor I got one chance for a picture. The cottontail peeked around the cedar as I sat waiting to get close photos of chickadees.

Wanting To Go Further My bike likes being photographed. I liked the sky in this shot. I'm a sucker for sky photos.

Cheeky A little friend who posed for me before disappearing in a heatrbeat.
