I worked on a development project in the Lower Shire Valley for 2 years - at the southern end of the country surrounded by Mozambique. Low lying and hot. My records indicate that mine were Red-winged Pratincoles. We had Open-billed Storks, but not Saddle - Billed. Another great sighting was a Black-bellied Bustard - a challenge even with the equipment I have now - it wouldn't let me within 100 metres. If you have a good picture of that one I will be impressed!
Been there, and yes, very hot indeed. I know a few missionary friends that work there, a pastor as well and have some friends in Blantyre. Beautiful country all round, but the mice on a stick, kabab style, was too much for me About the Black Bellied Bustard, just checked Google, and we call it the Black Bellied Korhaan. I do have an image of one somewhere in my collection, i'll see if I can find it-in my 1000's of images from the Kruger Park.
Fab images from you - those last ones. Keep them coming.

Oh, found the Black Bellied Korhaan

Obviously the Korhaans are not as shy as they used to be, or you have unusual stalking powers - great shot!
Yes, I turned down the dried mice and the insects as well. The politics were tough but Malawians are wonderful people and it was a great experience.

Sure there are some BBK's in the files somewhere, but all of them may have been posted already. This might be called a pretty bird to it's face, but behind it's back a better word would be gaudy.

I was just lucky- early morning in the Kruger Park, and it was reluctant to fly-probably still warming up. And a 500mm lens helps keep a distance. Its the only one I have seen thus far.
OK, i'm giving up on the bird binge

The lioness came out and plunked down in the road, her cubs followed.

Don't have another lizard image ready, so here's a far less intimidating reptile.
