Amazing photos! How close are you able to get to these animals? I imagine the footing is a bit tricky, too. Great work.

Pretty close. About 50' away from the males, further for the female with calf. Used a small skiff to get these photos. Pretty stable, until someone starts rocking the boat.

Rollsup, fantastic shots, I just hope they don't get playful with your skiff.
Javier, if that's real I'm never going back to Hollywood!
Kim, nice Hawk, what type is it?

Friday I went to Magee Marsh, the annual Spring bird migration is in full swing. I got there before 6:30 am since rain was predicted to start around 10-11, lucky for me it just sprinkled a few times and I was there until after 5:00.

Angry Lizard. Caught two just after a fight, second time I've seen this. They both develop this coloring and the ridge down the back. Didn't get a good shot of the other one, it had something in its mouth and was running up the tree too fast for me. Taken a few days ago with Vivitar 200mm.

Cedar Waxwings

The cherries are ripe on the trees here which means I get the chance to shoot some interesting birds, including waxwings.

For a variety of reasons, I find waxwings very challenging. For one thing, they're mercurial: they appear and disappear quite suddenly. Also, they seem to avoid bright sunlight. Most of all it's their very smooth plumage which, presumably, explains the name--it's very hard to get any feather detail at all. But they're irresistibly beautiful birds so I go all out.

This is one of my best so far, taken with the K 1000mm + 2x-L TC on the K-5. I was shooting with the setting sun off my right shoulder but it was a bit weak and, while I got away with 1/400s, I opened up to f14, inviting some some fringing, and still had to go to ISO 4000

By & large, I'm pretty pleased with this given the circumstances--I think I see some faint hint of feather detail. I'm hoping I'll get a clear shot on a bright afternoon at some point in the next couple of weeks.
