The birds are back, but the sun has gone south for the winter.

Blue grouse hiding in the brush.
Did the K-3's smaller focus points helped focus on the grouse instead of the branches? Using spot focus, I find the K-3 vastly better than the K-5 in focussing on birds between branches.

By the way, it's a Ruffed Grouse.

Salt-water crocodile. I believe I went to manual focus for this rather than trust the spot focus to avoid the branches.

I took three shots before the bird flushed. Two focused on the branches and 1 focused on the bird. I'm not sure how that compares to the K-5. I probably should have gone with manual focus to increase the number of usable shots, but I'm pretty happy with the one that I did get. Thanks for the ID correction. I should have double checked the bird guide.

I passed an Hyena den regularly on my recent trip to the Kruger Park. Plenty photos.

A striped hyena. More handsome, IMHO, than the spotted hyenas, and this one, in a zoo, was in beautiful condition and very clean.
