Indeed it is; apparently they don't let you take photos of the penguins out at Phillip Island.

I recognised the rocks

I think that's true about Phillip Island - haven't been there for many years. My recollection is that the penguins come ashore after dark and all the flashes would scare them off. My girlfriend at the time had a holiday house on the headland overlooking the penguin parade and penguins used to nest under the house. I think that most of those holiday houses have been removed for green reasons. Probably a good idea.

Richard.

Nice family portrait! How ever did you get them to sit still?

Hypnosis ...

I should have mentioned, that is about a 50% crop. Even so, I was surprised at how close I was able to get before the little one started getting suspicious. They get used to people feeding the ducks, and are even on the lookout for stray tidbits.

Here's a Black-crowned Night Heron I got some pics of today. I don't get to see these very often around the upper Chesapeake.

Good find, Tom! I agree that the black-crowned isn't common in these parts--Fall migration, perhaps?

You might be right about the migration. Didn't you catch some last year around this time? After the flood waters from the Susquehanna receded a lot of minnows were trapped in the marsh and these guys are well fed.

I don't think so--I get the yellow-crowned guys in the spring & summer on Gwynns Falls but not the black-crowned.

The birds have been pretty quiet lately and it's been pretty gloomy so I've turned to bugs. I used the Sigma 70/2.8 macro & K-5 on-camera flash.

Taken with my trusty ol' K100D and the Mk I 18-55 kit lens. You have to find the wildlife, but I promise it's in there. Location is 13,000 feet up the side of Mt Evans, Colorado.

Well, at first I saw a snake but realized it was a parking lot. Is there a small rodent in the lower left quadrant?
