Now for something completely different - and perhaps stretching the normal use and understanding of what constitutes "wildlife," this is a sea dragon, to our eyes among the most curious of animals (as if ordinary sea horses were not curious).

That's not stretching it at all. Interesting critter. Just wonder how it would spew out its fire breath in the water.

Buffalo checking me out. A rather old bull this. And probably suffering from mange, or other skin disease.

Speaking of fire under water brings to my mind various speculation about life on other planets. Suppose the planet is completely covered by water? "Intelligent" organisms might evolve, octopus are arguably "intelligent," but they could never invent fire, and therefore never move beyond their stone age to using metals, and therefore for multiple reasons never master electricity, never have any form of engine (a steam era? - impossible). Could they travel to outer space? Imagine a space ship whose passenger compartment was completely filled with water.

A red squirrel photographed yesterday when I was out looking for a reported owl (no luck). The squirrel sat perfectly still for as long ass I had him in sight. Most unusual, as they are usually spastically, almost manically busy.
