Another image of the phoebe nest out on the deck light. Images of this nest are about all that's left in the ready-to-post folder, but there are a few new subjects from our recent trip, once they are loaded into the desktop and run through PP.

4 Rhino's- Rietvlei Nature Reserve in Pretoria. Two Rhino's were poached here about 3 weeks ago. Crazy- they have been de-horned, but these have been growing again, and that is probably what they were after. X-posted

Cory's shearwater. These birds fly, or rather glide, exasperatingly fast.

Pair of sperm whales. FYI: Baleen whales have two nostrils, toothed whales only one (commonly called the "blow hole"). Most whales have the nostril(s) on top of the head, but sperm whales have it at the tip of their squared-off head. AND, in sperm whales the slit-like nostril/blow hole is always shifted to the left side of the head, just visible in each of this pair.

Dolphin, doing the dolphin thing. Startling to see a wild marine animal being downright playful.

Moose calves near Riley Creek, orphaned in early June when a park visitor shot their mother inside the park boundaries near the entrance. No arrests have been made, yet. The calves probably wont last the summer... DA*50-135

Sad story. The calves look to be foraging and grazing, so they must be weaned. Where is the herd they are from?

Moose are solitary for the most part. Calves stay with their mothers for a season or two and they somewhat group up for the rut, but that's about it.

Word is another cow has been seen with the calves however, and it isn't unheard of for a cow to adopt orphaned calves.
