Scientific name for that in my bird book is Sterna Bergii. If I remember correctly, these were not quite as large as the swift Tern but I may be wrong. The other possibility (taking the yellow bill as diagnostic), besides Little Tern, is Lesser Crested Tern, but that is not listed as occurring in the area where I saw these, Port Elizabeth. So probably I'll go for Swift Terns and Little Terns, both of which are listed as Gregarious, and often in company with other terns. And probably also included in the mix are common terns and Damara terns (the ones with the Black bills). I'm confused now
In the past some authorities have placed Thalasseus in Sterna, and the Little Tern (Sternula albifrons) in Sterna, but those treatments seem to have fallen out of fashion. It looks like Greater Crested (Swift) Tern (Thalasseus [Sterna] bergii) occurs in the Port Elizabeth area. Many of the smaller terns have dark bills and white foreheads in the non-breeding season, and from the photo it might be difficult to ID them.

Springtime is the time of goslings. With the size difference between these two adults, it almost looks like a Canada and a cackling goose pair.
