wild migratory Canada Geese nesting at lake in the Topeka Zoological Park

1 drying wings after a bath

2 sitting on the nest

3 the guardian [ I discovered that if I was taking photographs where I could use my uncovered eye on the "guardian", it was much better because I could "read" its reactions to me and move back and forth. Once I put it to my right, I got into trouble and had to back away when I put the camera down and saw it heading to me with neck straight out and mouth open. I did and it calmed down. but - - - if I hadn't taken the camera from my eye and checked ? ? ? ? ]

4 uncovered nest right before I checked the guardian

5 from platform across the lake, note egg

Documented:

my favorite memory of the Tanzania trip has to be the discovery of the Mother Cheetah and its young cub feeding in the Serengeti National Park

Wow, a bunch of them! They really need a special collective noun--like, maybe, "an obstruction of hippos".
