This slender green snake went zipping across a trail just ahead of me, then slowed long enough for me to get off a couple shots, but the 28-105 was mounted when the situation called for about 300mm, and the ISO was @ 400, aperture @ f8, so much too long a shutter speed for the deep shadows on the forest floor. With all that, following a deep crop. at least the snake can be seen.

I was told today by a keeper that the male had the " V " and the female had the " U " shape where the black and white meet on the face

mated pair of trumpeter swans at the Topeka Zoological Park

[ black and white presentation just seems right for these birds ]

One of the few wild wildlife images from our recent trip (plenty of pictures from the zoo). The woodpecker was down very low, his tail almost touching the ground at times. We were on a steep trail up to Natural Bridge so the longest lens I had carried was a 180mm Voigtlander. A longish shutter speed in the deep shadow of the forest floor, and a deep crop. This was the best of multiple images. He kept pecking at the tree, so most of the other files are just black feathers topped by a featureless blur.
