I've only had herons in my garden when it has snowed as they can feed from my pond which is sheltered and doesn't freeze over....grrrrr

This was taken next to a pond but I walked across the ice to get the shot.

Great Blue Heron at one of the ponds at the Topeka Zoological Park

it decided this guy was too big and dropped it.

however, I think it was not " a survivor "
