decided to try out my experienced SMC Pentax-DA L 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED + the HD Pentax-DA 1.4x AW AF Rear Converter and my K 3

sometimes, if your memory is like mine at times, you will forget what your target was when taking the shot, so look close

the red flash is helpful on 3 and 4

1 and 3 - as is no crop or pp

In my neighbor's yard. I worry that this fawn is an orphan--at this age, a doe should be near but wasn't. I know I grumble about the deer but still...

So that's a hoepoe! There was a reference to hoepoes in a college production of Aristophanes' The Birds. For some reason, it was one of those mysteries which stuck with me--unsolved 'til now. From the photo, it certainly seems worthy of 50 years of low-level puzzlement. I could have looked it up I suppose, but it's more fun having the veil lifted this way.
