Merganser with an itch. A zoo specimen that had lost one eye.

Starting to get through my shots. And there may be quarter of a million impala in the Kruger, but I never tire of seeing them - they're such photogenic animals

For a minute there I thought you said you have a quarter million photos from Kruger Park. Ek stem- I agree, they are beautiful, especially with the "socks".

On-line I've tentatively identified this bird as a red-vented bulbul. Correction if needed appreciated. BTW: I think the belly color is buffy white. The yellowish tinge there in one of the images seems to be an accident of the lighting.

Just about

But no, being on foot doesn't bring as many photos as being in a vehicle. Being on foot is much more enjoyable, though. The rangers got nervous only twice; once when a dagga boy appeared 10-12 meters away, and once when a black rhino bull got wind of us (with mother and calf on the other side). That last incident actually got us on a run - which, of course, is the one thing you're supposed to never do.

Ok, since we're on birds, here's a European roller.

I don't think that no gnus is good news.

Eight in this shot. That leaves 249,992 still to photograph.

These flamingos, judging from the color, were getting a perfect flamingo diet at the zoo. I actually had the cut down the saturation as the red was just too much.

I would say so, nothing like the flamingos at our local zoo.

Two ibis at the zoo. I thought maybe someone had dropped a tiny hockey puck between them.

Demoiselle crane. These do have an elegant "sophisticated" look, like an aristocratic lady done up for a night at the opera.
