MUCH easier to get a drink if you get in the swim. This hippo appears to have a torn left ear

New Zealand wood pigeon. This one struck some nice poses for several minutes. Easy to see from the very soft lighting that it was an overcast day.

I think if the sun had been out there would be more iridescence on the green face and breast feathers.

Yes, I was intrigued when another Australian posted images of this bird, very similar indeed.

The same fate seems to have befallen this little gecko, found in the sink of our bedroom at one resort, although I doubt the elephant lost its tail there.

Rather than short tails I'll go for long horns.

The white-eye family seems to be quite widespread in Africa, Asia, Australasia and the Pacific: White-eye - Wikipedia The silvereyes are a plucky little bird, very social and with a very pleasant and cheerful song.

Thanks very much Walt. I've found it hard to get a half-decent shot of them in the bush. More opportunities since they started coming to our place often. So much easier when you can get reasonably close!

I've heard of lizards shedding their tail as a defence. It's quite a remarkable adaptation: Autotomy - Wikipedia
It doesn't mention nellies though. ;-)
