Those fellows are so smart and playful, two qualities that seem to go together.

Once while walking along the the nearby Swift River during a prolonged deep winter cold, with ice covering parts of the stream. we came across a group of at least two, maybe three otters talking to each other, and sliding out onto the ice sheets, then sliding back into the water. Small wonder some people want them for pets (most famous book about otters as pets: "Ring of Bright Water" - if you'd like a pleasant, simple read)

Back in the water with a manatee. No need for outstanding IQ with this subject. They're mostly a big dark lump, and at all times 90% of them is under distorting water.
